A tragic drowning was reported this evening (29th) near Moyakata, in Ginthota, Galle.
The victim was a 22-year-old young man from the Kurunduwatta area in Ginthota. According to reports, he had gone for a swim in the Gin River near the Moyakata area and went missing shortly after.
Local residents, along with Navy divers and the police, launched a search operation. His body was later recovered by the divers.
After retrieving the body, it was taken to the mortuary at Galle National Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Galle Police are continuing further investigations into the incident.
