Colombo – July 30, 2025
Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe has publicly rejected the corruption allegations recently leveled against him by members of the opposition, calling the claims “baseless and politically motivated.”

Speaking at a press conference held this morning, Jayasinghe stated that he has “no involvement in any corrupt dealings” and is prepared to cooperate fully with any independent investigation.

“These accusations are nothing more than an attempt to tarnish my image and distract from the government’s ongoing development agenda,” he said.

The opposition had earlier accused Jayasinghe of alleged misuse of public funds in relation to infrastructure contracts awarded under his ministry. The Deputy Minister, however, dismissed these claims, asserting that all contracts were awarded in compliance with government procurement procedures.

Jayasinghe also challenged the opposition to present any concrete evidence to support their allegations and reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and good governance.

🔍 Call for Investigation

Civil society groups and some members of the public have called for an independent inquiry into the matter to ensure public trust is maintained. The Anti-Corruption Commission has not yet announced whether it will initiate a formal investigation.

Jayasinghe concluded his statement by emphasizing that he remains focused on his duties and urged political opponents to engage in constructive dialogue rather than baseless accusations.
