July 30, 2025 – Munich, Germany:
German football powerhouse FC Bayern Munich has completed the signing of Luis Díaz from Liverpool FC in a high-profile transfer valued at approximately €75 million, including performance-based add-ons. The Colombian international has signed a four-year contract, with the option of a fifth, and is set to wear the number 14 shirt at his new club.
A Productive Spell at Liverpool
Díaz, 28, arrived at Anfield in January 2022 from FC Porto and quickly established himself as a core member of Jürgen Klopp’s side. Over three-and-a-half seasons, he made 101 appearances, scoring 30 goals and contributing 10 assists across all competitions.
His tenure at Liverpool was marked by consistent high-level performances, culminating in four major trophies, including the Premier League title in 2024–25. Known for his pace, directness, and tactical versatility, Díaz was instrumental during a transitional period for the club.
Strategic Move by Bayern
Bayern Munich’s acquisition of Díaz is part of the club’s broader strategy to strengthen its attacking depth following the departures of several senior wingers. The transfer is among the most expensive in Bayern’s history and reflects the club’s intent to remain competitive on both domestic and European fronts.
According to sources familiar with the deal, Díaz will earn an estimated €14 million gross annually, placing him among the highest-paid players at the club.
Liverpool’s Perspective
From Liverpool’s standpoint, the sale represents the third-highest transfer income in the club’s history, following the exits of Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suárez. The move also supports the ongoing restructuring under head coach Arne Slot, who is expected to reinvest in the squad during the current window.
A New Chapter
Luis Díaz now embarks on the next phase of his career in the Bundesliga, bringing with him a proven track record at the top level. His addition is expected to bolster Bayern’s offensive options as the club targets success in the UEFA Champions League and looks to reclaim the Bundesliga title.
