July 31, 2025 — Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot addressed key topics in a recent interview, providing insights into the club’s plans following the high-profile sale of Luis Diaz. Slot reflected on the implications of the Colombian forward’s departure, the rise of young talent within the squad, and the club’s record signing of Florian Wirtz.
Regarding Diaz’s transfer, Slot expressed gratitude for the player’s contributions but acknowledged the challenges that come with losing a key performer. “Luis Diaz was instrumental during his time here. His move was a big moment for both the club and the player, but football is about progression and growth,” he said.
On whether the club will seek a direct replacement, Slot noted confidence in the existing squad depth and recent acquisitions. “While replacing Luis is never straightforward, we have strengthened the team in other areas. The arrival of Florian Wirtz adds much-needed creativity and dynamism to our attack. Alongside our young talents, we believe we are well-equipped for the season ahead.”
The coach also praised the development of homegrown player Isaac Ngumoha, highlighting his impressive performances and potential. “Ngumoha’s progress is a testament to our youth development system. He has shown great promise and is ready to contribute at a senior level.”
Comparing this transfer window to the previous one, Slot pointed out a marked difference in activity. “Last summer was more subdued, with only a few additions such as Chiesa. This season, the club has been proactive in the transfer market, reflecting our ambition to compete strongly domestically and in Europe.”
Slot concluded by reiterating Feyenoord’s commitment to blending experienced signings with emerging players to build a competitive and balanced squad for the challenges ahead.
