BARCELONA, July 30, 2025 —
FC Barcelona has announced a four-year strategic partnership with the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), marking a significant move in international sports diplomacy and cultural exchange.
The agreement, valued at €44 million, will see all of Barcelona’s professional teams wear the emblem “R.D. Congo – Cœur d’Afrique” on the back of their training shirts through the 2028–29 season. This partnership aims to promote sports development, peace, and cultural awareness between Spain and the DRC.
A Shared Commitment to Sports and Culture
As part of the collaboration, Barcelona will utilize its Barça Academies to implement sports programs in the DRC, including camps and clinics for children. These initiatives will encompass various disciplines such as football, basketball, handball, futsal, and roller hockey. Additionally, the Barça Innovation Hub will provide training for adult coaches, focusing on areas like technical development, sports science, and event organization.
The DRC will be designated as Barcelona’s “Official Empowerment Partner for Sports and Culture,” reflecting a shared commitment to fostering multi-sport development within the country.
Cultural Exchange at Spotify Camp Nou
A notable aspect of the partnership is the establishment of the “House of the DRC” at the future Spotify Camp Nou. This immersive exhibition will showcase the rich cultural and sporting traditions of the DRC, aiming to strengthen ties and promote understanding between the two nations.
A Strategic Move Amid Global Sponsorship Trends
This deal positions the DRC as Barcelona’s third international sports tourism sponsor, following similar agreements with AS Monaco and AC Milan. The sponsorship is part of a broader strategy by the DRC government to enhance its global image through sports partnerships, despite ongoing internal challenges.
