Gaza City – July 31, 2025
Israel’s sustained military campaign in Gaza, now entering its tenth consecutive month, has intensified this week, with reports from local hospitals indicating a sharp rise in hunger-related deaths, particularly among children.
Since the beginning of the conflict in October 2023, humanitarian agencies and medical professionals in Gaza have warned of an accelerating food crisis. These concerns have now materialized into a dire emergency, as malnutrition and starvation claim lives across the territory. Hospitals, already stretched beyond capacity due to infrastructure damage and critical shortages of supplies, are struggling to treat an increasing number of patients suffering from acute hunger.
Pediatric wards in several hospitals, including the remnants of Gaza’s largest medical centers, have confirmed dozens of child fatalities directly linked to starvation or related complications. Medical workers describe scenes of severe deprivation, with children arriving in advanced stages of malnourishment and many families unable to access even the most basic food items.
International aid agencies have reported continued difficulties in delivering essential supplies due to Israeli airstrikes, the ongoing blockade, and restrictions on humanitarian convoys. Despite repeated appeals from the United Nations and global relief organizations, safe corridors for food and medical aid remain limited and frequently disrupted.
The Israeli government has stated that its operations in Gaza are aimed at eliminating militant threats and preventing attacks on Israeli civilians. However, critics, including international human rights groups, have expressed grave concerns over the humanitarian impact of the military campaign and the scale of civilian suffering.
UN officials have reiterated calls for an immediate ceasefire and unimpeded humanitarian access to avert further loss of life. With Gaza’s population increasingly cut off from food, clean water, electricity, and medical services, the enclave’s humanitarian crisis is reaching unprecedented levels.
As the bombardment continues with no clear resolution in sight, the civilian population of Gaza—especially its most vulnerable—faces the mounting threat of starvation alongside the dangers of ongoing military conflict.
