London, July 30 — India vice-captain Shubman Gill revealed that the team deferred its decision on Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion until match day, citing the green nature of the Oval pitch ahead of the crucial Test.

Speaking during the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Gill said:

“We will take a decision tomorrow — the wicket looks very green, so let’s see.”

The Oval pitch, known for offering early movement to seamers, appeared particularly grass-covered in the lead-up to the match. The conditions prompted discussions within the Indian camp about fielding an additional fast bowler, with Bumrah’s name naturally at the forefront.

Bumrah, who has returned to full match fitness after a period of workload management, was a strong contender to spearhead the pace attack. However, the final decision was held until Wednesday morning after a final pitch inspection and assessment of team balance.

As of Thursday, India’s strategy and bowling composition reflect a calculated response to the conditions, with Bumrah’s potential inclusion (or omission) seen as a critical tactical decision.

India continue to aim for a strong performance as the Test progresses, with pitch behaviour and weather conditions expected to play a decisive role over the coming days.
