Birmingham, July 30, 2025 — India Champions have officially withdrawn from their World Championship of Legends (WCL) semi-final match against Pakistan Champions, resulting in Pakistan advancing to the final by walkover.
The decision follows ongoing geopolitical tensions and public pressure related to recent incidents, leading several prominent former Indian players to collectively refuse participation. This move comes after a similar occurrence in the group stage, where a scheduled India-Pakistan match was abandoned and both teams awarded one point.
WCL officials confirmed that in accordance with tournament regulations, Pakistan Champions will progress directly to the final, which is scheduled for August 2. Their opponent will be determined from the remaining semi-final between South Africa Champions and Australia Champions.
Tournament organizers expressed regret over the cancellation but emphasized respect for the players’ decisions and a commitment to upholding the integrity of the competition. The withdrawal has sparked renewed debate over the impact of political tensions on international sporting events.
Fans affected by the cancellation will receive partial refunds, according to WCL officials. The tournament will continue as scheduled, with anticipation building for the final match.
