Colombo, July 31, 2025 — Japan has reaffirmed its commitment to assist Sri Lanka in the ongoing removal of landmines in the northern region. A new agreement signed recently aims to bolster efforts to clear unexploded ordnance, ensuring safer living conditions for residents and aiding post-conflict recovery.

This renewed partnership highlights Japan’s focus on humanitarian aid and sustainable development in areas affected by past conflicts. Sri Lankan officials welcomed the support, emphasizing the importance of mine clearance in restoring security and enabling resettlement initiatives.

The collaborative effort is expected to accelerate the pace of demining operations, contributing to long-term peace and stability in northern Sri Lanka.
