Colombo, July 31, 2025 — Minister Wijitha Herath acknowledged today that Sri Lanka is currently grappling with severe difficulties following years of economic and social turmoil. Addressing the nation, he stated that the country had been handed over in a deeply troubled state and cautioned that recovery would require time and persistent effort.
“We have taken over a nation in a very difficult condition. Rebuilding is not an overnight process,” Minister Herath said. He appealed to the public for understanding and patience as the government implements reforms and recovery measures aimed at stabilizing the economy and improving living conditions.
The minister’s comments reflect the ongoing challenges Sri Lanka faces, including inflation, fiscal deficits, and infrastructure rebuilding. Officials stress that while progress may be gradual, the government remains committed to restoring long-term stability and growth.
