July 31, 2025 — OpenAI has reached an annualized revenue of 12 billion dollars, nearly doubling its income in the first seven months of 2025. This milestone indicates the company is generating approximately 1 billion dollars per month, up from about 500 million dollars per month at the beginning of the year.

The surge in revenue is attributed to the widespread adoption of OpenAI’s ChatGPT products, which now boast around 700 million weekly active users, encompassing both individual consumers and business clients.

Despite this rapid growth, OpenAI has increased its projected cash burn for 2025 to 8 billion dollars, up 1 billion from earlier estimates.

To support continued expansion, OpenAI is securing investors for the second 30 billion dollar portion of a funding round. Noteworthy contributions are expected from Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global Management, each investing hundreds of millions. So far, investors, excluding Japan’s SoftBank, are nearing 7.5 billion dollars in committed funds. SoftBank’s total investment in OpenAI has reached 32 billion dollars since its initial investment in late 2024.

Microsoft remains a key backer of the company.

OpenAI’s rapid growth underscores its pivotal role in the AI industry and its potential for continued innovation and expansion.
