Colombo – July 30, 2025
In a scintillating display of power-hitting, Pawan Ratnayake smashed a blistering 158 off just 94 balls to propel Colts Cricket Club (CCC) to a towering total of 387 runs in the finals of the Major Club 50 Over Tournament, played against Police Sports Club at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
Coming in at the top of the order, Ratnayake dominated from the outset, punishing anything short or full with ruthless efficiency. His innings included a flurry of boundaries and towering sixes, as he kept the scoreboard ticking at an electric pace. He reached his century in just 65 deliveries before accelerating further, dismantling the Police SC attack in the final overs.
Supported by solid contributions from the middle order, CCC built their innings around Ratnayake’s commanding presence at the crease. By the end of their 50 overs, they had amassed 387/6, marking one of the highest totals in the tournament’s recent history.
The Police Sports Club bowlers struggled for control throughout the innings, with no bowler escaping unscathed. Fielding lapses and missed opportunities compounded their difficulties as CCC capitalized fully on the momentum.
With 388 needed to win, Police SC now face a steep uphill task under the lights. The pressure of a high-stakes final, combined with scoreboard pressure, sets the stage for a dramatic second half.
Ratnayake’s innings is already being hailed as one of the finest in Major Club 50 Over Final history and has placed CCC in a commanding position to secure the title.
