Dharmasthala – July 31, 2025
In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into suspected mass burials in Dharmasthala, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has established a public hotline to collect information and leads. This follows the recovery of partial human skeletal remains at a location identified as “Spot 6” earlier this week.
The remains, discovered during a coordinated excavation operation, have been confirmed as human by forensic specialists. Investigators believe the site may be linked to a wider pattern of disappearances under review across the Dakshina Kannada region.
“This investigation has now entered a critical phase,” said SIT Lead Investigator Inspector General D. Rajan. “We are calling on the public to come forward with any information, no matter how minor it may seem. The hotline will serve as a direct and secure line of communication with our investigation team.”
The hotline, operational around the clock, will allow anonymous tips. Authorities have assured that all information provided will be treated confidentially and could assist in identifying victims or uncovering those responsible.
Sources within the SIT confirmed that forensic analysis, including DNA testing, is ongoing to establish identities and match remains with open missing persons cases. A total of six sites have been marked for examination following reports from local residents and ground-penetrating radar scans.
The mass burial investigation began after preliminary intelligence suggested that a series of disappearances might be linked to organized criminal activity involving illegal detentions or extrajudicial killings.
As authorities expand their search, law enforcement agencies have increased security around excavation zones and forensic labs handling evidence. Senior officials have described the investigation as one of the most complex in recent memory for the region.
The SIT is expected to release further updates as forensic analysis progresses and as public input through the hotline helps shape the ongoing inquiry.
