Male, 31 July 2025 — Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake concluded a significant state visit to the Maldives, marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. During the visit, President Dissanayake and Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held high-level talks aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

A key outcome of the visit was the signing of two important agreements:

Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty – This treaty aims to facilitate cooperation between the two nations in criminal justice matters, strengthening legal frameworks and enabling enhanced collaboration in law enforcement. Memorandum of Understanding on Diplomatic Training – This MoU establishes a partnership between Sri Lanka’s Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute and the Maldives Foreign Service Institute. It focuses on promoting the exchange of information and documents to improve diplomatic training and institutional cooperation.

These agreements underscore the commitment of both Sri Lanka and the Maldives to deepen their bilateral relationship and promote regional cooperation.

In recognition of the occasion, President Muizzu hosted a formal dinner at the Kurumba Maldives resort, highlighting the warmth and significance of the diplomatic engagement.

The visit reflects the enduring partnership between the two countries, reinforcing their shared goals of mutual development and collaboration in the South Asian region.
