Colombo, July 31, 2025 — Sri Lankan authorities have intensified efforts to combat corruption, resulting in the arrest of 34 individuals connected to bribery offenses in the first six months of 2025. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) spearheaded these actions following thousands of complaints and numerous investigations across the country.
Among those arrested are ten police officers, five officials from the Ministry of Justice, two employees from the Ministry of Health, and two staff members from the Sri Lanka Transport Board. Six civilians were also apprehended for their involvement in various bribery incidents.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against 60 suspects, with 50 cases currently active in courts nationwide. While a handful of these cases have been resolved, the majority remain under judicial consideration.
CIABOC officials underscored the ongoing commitment to rooting out corruption at all levels of government and public service, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public confidence and institutional integrity through rigorous enforcement measures.
