Colombo, Sri Lanka — The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic and Road Safety, Range Indika Hapugoda, has stated that motorists caught driving over 120 km/h on expressways will face court proceedings even if they settle fines via the GovPay mobile application.

Addressing recent concerns about speeding violations, DIG Hapugoda emphasized that paying fines electronically will not exempt offenders from legal action in cases of excessive speeding. This policy aims to strengthen road safety enforcement and reduce accidents caused by reckless driving on the country’s expressway network.

Authorities urge drivers to comply with posted speed limits to ensure their safety and that of others, warning that failure to do so will result in stringent legal consequences.

Further updates are expected as the Traffic Department continues to implement measures targeting high-risk driving behaviors.
