Colombo, July 31, 2025 — The Sri Lanka Police Department has announced plans to recruit ten thousand female officers over the coming years as part of a broader effort to increase gender diversity within the force.

Senior officials highlighted that this initiative aims to create a more balanced and inclusive police service, better reflecting the community it serves. The recruitment drive will focus on attracting qualified women from across the country to strengthen the police presence in various units, including community policing, investigation, and special operations.

The Police Department emphasized that increasing female representation is essential to improve public trust, especially in cases involving women and children, and to enhance the overall effectiveness of law enforcement.

Training programs tailored to support the new recruits will be implemented, alongside mentorship and career development opportunities to ensure their success and retention within the service.

This move comes as part of the government’s broader commitment to empower women in public service roles and promote gender equality in traditionally male-dominated sectors.

Authorities expect that the increased female presence in the police force will contribute positively to social harmony and safety throughout the country.
