London – July 30, 2025 — Prominent UK political figures reportedly hoped former U.S. President Donald Trump would speak out about Palestinian suffering, in a bid to help reshape Britain’s own position on the Israel-Palestine conflict, according to Freddy Gray, Deputy Editor of The Spectator.

In a recent commentary, Gray revealed that behind closed doors, some UK leaders viewed Trump’s potential remarks as a politically strategic opportunity. His unique platform and global influence, they believed, could provide political cover or momentum for the UK to recalibrate its traditionally pro-Israel stance and acknowledge the humanitarian crisis facing Palestinians — particularly in Gaza.

“They thought if Trump — of all people — spoke out about Palestinian suffering, it would grant them permission to shift tone without appearing politically isolated,” Gray stated.

The revelations come as pressure builds on Western governments to respond more directly to the worsening situation in Gaza, where reports of famine-like conditions, widespread displacement, and infrastructure collapse have intensified international scrutiny.

The UK government has faced growing domestic and international calls to adopt a more balanced or humanitarian-focused policy, particularly in light of developments at the United Nations, where several countries — including France and Canada — have announced intentions to recognize the State of Palestine.

Though Trump has yet to make any such statement, the idea that UK leaders would rely on his intervention underscores the complex political calculations involved in foreign policy realignment, especially within Western alliances.

There has been no official comment from UK government spokespeople in response to Gray’s claim.
