Colombo, August 1, 2025 — The Meteorology Department today issued a severe lightning advisory affecting several areas across Sri Lanka. The warning covers parts of the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and Uva Provinces, as well as the Hambantota district.
Residents in the specified regions are advised to exercise heightened caution as the advisory remains valid until 11:00 p.m. tonight. Authorities urge the public to stay indoors where possible, avoid open fields and tall structures, and follow safety guidelines during thunderstorms.
This warning comes amid unstable weather patterns attributed to seasonal changes, increasing the likelihood of intense electrical storms in these parts of the country.
Local officials are coordinating to monitor the situation closely and provide necessary assistance if required. The public is encouraged to stay tuned to official updates and take precautionary measures seriously to ensure safety.
