Warsaw, August 3, 2025 — Poland is poised to bolster its military capabilities with a significant order of 180 K2 Black Panther main battle tanks from South Korea, marking a key component of a broader $6.5 billion defense agreement between the two nations.
The deal, which represents one of the largest recent acquisitions in Poland’s defense modernization efforts, underscores Warsaw’s commitment to enhancing its armored forces amid growing regional security challenges in Eastern Europe.
The K2 Black Panther, produced by South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem, is considered one of the most advanced tanks globally, featuring cutting-edge technology in firepower, mobility, and protection. The tanks are expected to replace older Soviet-era models currently in service with the Polish military.
Polish defense officials emphasize that the acquisition aligns with the country’s broader strategy to strengthen its deterrence capabilities within NATO and to respond effectively to emerging threats along its eastern borders.
South Korea’s export of the K2 tanks to Poland also highlights the expanding defense partnership between Seoul and European countries, reflecting growing geopolitical ties and shared security interests.
The delivery schedule and further technical details are expected to be finalized in the coming months, with initial units anticipated to arrive within the next two years.
