Gaza City – August 4, 2025
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza has confirmed the deaths of three individuals from Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological disorder that causes rapid muscle weakness and, in severe cases, paralysis.
Among the deceased are two children under the age of 15, who reportedly succumbed after life-saving treatments became unavailable due to the ongoing blockade and deteriorating healthcare conditions in the region.
Officials from the Ministry have raised alarms over a sharp rise in infections and widespread malnutrition—particularly among children—which they say have created a “fertile environment” for the unchecked spread of viruses and diseases.
In an official statement, the Ministry warned that the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare and environmental systems represents a serious threat to the population’s wellbeing. They emphasized, “These are not just deaths… They are a warning of a real, potential infectious disaster.”
The Ministry is appealing urgently to international and humanitarian organisations to provide critical medicines and medical supplies. It expects a limited shipment of World Health Organization (WHO) aid trucks carrying essential medications to arrive later today.
Continued Violence and Casualties
Meanwhile, hospital sources in Gaza report that at least 34 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since dawn, including 17 aid seekers. The escalating violence further exacerbates the humanitarian crisis faced by civilians in the enclave.
The fragile health infrastructure, coupled with ongoing conflict and restricted access to essential supplies, continues to place immense strain on the Gaza population, particularly vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.
