Tel Aviv – August 4, 2025
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Sunday that a missile was launched from Yemen toward Israeli territory, in what marks another escalation in regional hostilities involving Iran-backed Houthi forces.
According to military sources, the projectile was detected by the IDF’s early warning systems and air defence units. Authorities did not immediately confirm whether the missile was intercepted or if it caused any damage or injuries. An official statement noted that details are still under review and that the situation remains fluid.
The IDF’s Home Front Command issued a public alert shortly after the missile launch was detected, advising residents to remain calm and follow updated safety guidelines as announced.
“We are closely monitoring all developments and remain fully prepared to respond to any threat to Israeli sovereignty,” said a senior IDF spokesperson.
Tensions between Israel and the Houthis in Yemen have intensified over the past year, especially as the ongoing conflict in Gaza and broader regional alignments draw in actors far beyond Israel’s immediate borders. While the Houthis have previously threatened to target Israel in solidarity with Palestinian groups, this latest development is one of the most direct long-range threats seen from the Yemeni front.
Authorities have not yet announced any changes to flight patterns or civilian activity, but defence analysts warn of potential retaliatory actions if the missile is confirmed to have reached Israeli airspace.
The IDF continues to monitor the airspace and urges the public to stay updated through official channels.
