MANCHESTER – August 5, 2025
Manchester City are preparing to offer a new long-term contract to midfield lynchpin Rodri, with the proposed deal expected to run until June 2029, club sources confirmed.
The Spanish international, widely regarded as one of the world’s most influential defensive midfielders, is seen as untouchable at the Etihad. The new deal, currently in advanced stages, would make Rodri the second-highest earner at the club—behind only Erling Haaland.
City are eager to reward Rodri’s consistency and leadership, having played a central role in the club’s domestic and European dominance in recent seasons. Club officials view the contract extension as both a statement of trust and a strategic move to fend off growing interest from European giants.
The decision now rests with Rodri, who is currently evaluating the terms of the offer. However, there is strong optimism within the club that the 28-year-old will commit his long-term future to Manchester.
Rodri joined City from Atlético Madrid in 2019 and has since become a key figure under Pep Guardiola, featuring in virtually every major fixture, including the UEFA Champions League final victory in 2023, where he scored the winning goal.
