Colombo — The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has warned of an islandwide strike unless the Health Ministry addresses concerns over recent irregularities in the doctor transfer list.
Speaking to the media, GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr. Hansamal Wijesuriya said the union expects a satisfactory resolution by 8:00 a.m. on August 11. Failing that, trade union action will commence.
“We have maintained ongoing dialogue with the Ministry of Health, but no meaningful steps have been taken to correct the transfer list issues. If these concerns are not resolved by the deadline, we will be compelled to initiate a strike across the country,” Dr. Wijesuriya stated.
The GMOA leadership has expressed frustration over what it describes as the authorities’ disregard for their repeated warnings. The union’s central committee has unanimously backed the strike as a final measure to ensure their demands are met.
