Washington — Apple is expected to unveil a significant new investment in the United States, likely tied to reshoring elements of its global supply chain, according to White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett. The announcement, anticipated later today, marks another high-profile win for the Biden administration’s broader drive to revive American manufacturing.

“They’re moving here in droves,” Hassett said during an interview on Fox Business Network, referring to companies shifting operations back to U.S. soil. “This is trillions and trillions of dollars of commitments for people to build new factories here. In fact, you’re likely to see one today from Apple.”

While Hassett offered no further detail, Bloomberg has reported that the move could involve Apple localising key components of its supply chain within the U.S. Assistant White House Press Secretary Taylor Rogers reinforced the significance of the announcement, framing it as a “win for our manufacturing industry” and a step toward securing America’s economic and national interests.

Apple has already laid the groundwork for major U.S.-based expansion. In February, the Cupertino tech giant announced plans to invest $500 billion domestically over the next four years, a commitment that includes a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence server factory in Texas and the creation of 20,000 research and development jobs across the country.

Today’s expected announcement, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Washington, signals not only Apple’s continued investment in U.S. infrastructure but also growing pressure on global tech firms to align with shifting geopolitical and economic priorities. The White House has not released further details about the agreement ahead of the announcement.

The potential move comes amid a broader policy environment pushing for the reshoring of critical technologies and a reduction in dependency on foreign manufacturing, particularly from China. If confirmed, Apple’s latest decision would mark one of the most high-profile endorsements of that policy shift to date.
