Manchester, United Kingdom – Pakistani cricketer Haider Ali has been provisionally suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following confirmation that he is under investigation by Greater Manchester Police in connection with an incident during the Pakistan Shaheens’ ongoing tour of England.

The PCB, in a statement released on Thursday, said the decision was made in line with its Code of Conduct and duty of care towards players. While details of the alleged incident remain undisclosed, the board confirmed that Haider Ali is receiving legal support and will remain suspended until the investigation concludes.

“In line with its duty of care and responsibility to ensure the welfare and legal rights of all its players, the PCB has ensured that Haider Ali has received appropriate legal support to protect his rights throughout this process,” the statement read.

The board emphasized its respect for the legal systems of the United Kingdom and said it would not comment further until proceedings are complete.

“The PCB fully respects the legal procedures and processes of the United Kingdom and acknowledges the importance of allowing the investigation to run its due course. Accordingly, the PCB has decided to place Haider Ali under provisional suspension, effective immediately,” it added.

The Pakistan Shaheens — a development squad composed of emerging national players — are currently touring England, where the alleged incident reportedly took place. Greater Manchester Police have not yet released further information regarding the nature of the complaint or the timeline of proceedings.

Haider Ali, 23, made his international debut for Pakistan in 2020 and has been viewed as one of the country’s brightest young batting talents. He has played across all three formats for the national side, though his recent appearances have been primarily with the Shaheens and domestic franchises.

The PCB stated it will reserve judgment and any further disciplinary measures until the full facts of the case are known.

“Once the legal proceedings are concluded and all facts have been duly established, the PCB reserves the right to take appropriate action under its Code of Conduct, if necessary,” it said.

As of now, no charges have been officially confirmed. Haider’s suspension remains a precautionary measure as the investigation continues.
