Colombo, Sri Lanka — Immigration and Emigration officers at Bandaranaike International Airport detained a Chinese man early this morning attempting to enter Sri Lanka under suspicious circumstances. The individual, arriving from Kuala Lumpur on a business visa, was unable to provide details about his intended employment or role in Sri Lanka.

Further investigation revealed the man held an identity card issued by Philippine authorities, linking him to a recently dismantled cybercrime organization in the Philippines. He was referred to the Border Surveillance Unit for additional scrutiny before being handed over to AirAsia for deportation back to Kuala Lumpur.

Authorities continue to tighten border controls amid growing concerns over transnational cybercrime activities in the region.
