The United States continues to dominate global military expenditure in 2024, allocating a staggering $968 billion, dwarfing all other nations. China remains the second-largest spender at $235 billion, while Russia ranks third with $145.9 billion.

European powers such as Germany and the United Kingdom invest $86 billion and $81.1 billion respectively, maintaining strong defence budgets amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions. India, Saudi Arabia, and France follow, with spending between $64 billion and $74.4 billion, reflecting their strategic regional priorities.

Countries like Japan and South Korea, key US allies in East Asia, have budgets of $53 billion and $43.9 billion respectively, underscoring their focus on security amid regional challenges.

Smaller but significant budgets come from Australia, Italy, Israel, Ukraine, and Poland, with expenditures ranging from $28 billion to $36 billion, indicative of their varied security needs and regional conflicts.

Notably, several Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian nations, including the UAE, Algeria, Taiwan, and Singapore, maintain sizeable defence investments, highlighting their strategic importance.

This distribution underscores an ongoing global military imbalance, with the US firmly leading, followed by rising powers and regional actors adjusting their forces to meet evolving threats.
