Jerusalem, Israel — In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict, Israel’s security cabinet has approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan for a full military takeover of Gaza City. The operation involves forcibly relocating “all Palestinian civilians” from the city to designated camps in central Gaza, marking a drastic shift in Israel’s approach to the nearly two-year-old war.

The plan has drawn widespread condemnation from international human rights groups, who warn it will cause immense suffering and displacement for the nearly one million residents currently sheltering in Gaza City. Critics say the forced removals risk escalating humanitarian crises in an already devastated enclave.

Israeli officials have defended the operation as necessary for security reasons, as military efforts intensify against Hamas and other armed groups. However, the announcement has raised fears of further civilian casualties and displacement in a conflict marked by repeated cycles of violence.
