Islamabad, Pakistan — Pakistani security forces have killed 33 militants who attempted to cross into the southwestern province of Balochistan from neighbouring Afghanistan, according to a statement from the military.

The operation took place overnight in the Zhob district of Balochistan, where soldiers intercepted the group described as “Indian-sponsored” separatists. The military referred to the fighters using the term “Khwarij,” a label often applied by the government to Pakistan Taliban operatives.

The statement highlighted ongoing tensions along the porous Pakistan-Afghanistan border, as Islamabad continues to clamp down on armed groups it accuses of destabilising the region. The military’s claims reflect long-standing accusations of foreign involvement in Pakistan’s restive southwestern province.
