COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Thilina Sampath, alias “Walas Kata,” sustained injuries after attempting to escape from the Western Province North Crime Division on Friday night.
Police said the incident occurred around 9:10 p.m. when officers removed his handcuffs so he could use the toilet. Upon returning, Sampath requested his prescribed medication. As an officer approached to hand it over, he allegedly shoved the officer and leapt from the third floor of the building, landing on the Colombo–Negombo Road.
The 33-year-old suffered injuries to both legs and one arm and is receiving treatment at Colombo National Hospital under police guard.
Sampath, a close associate of organised crime figure “Kehelbaddara Padme,” was arrested recently in Seeduwa with more than 500 grams of heroin in his possession. Police investigations are ongoing.
