Colombo, Sri Lanka – Sri Lanka has recorded a strong surge in tourism this year, with a total of 1,408,335 tourists arriving so far—marking a significant increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
India remains the top source market, contributing 286,085 visitors to the island nation. The United Kingdom and Russia also feature prominently, with 135,722 and 116,257 tourists respectively.
Early August figures show continued momentum, as 40,047 foreign nationals arrived during the first five days of the month. Among these, 6,963 visitors were from India, accounting for 17.4% of arrivals in that period. Other notable groups included 4,345 tourists from the United Kingdom, 3,090 from China, 3,049 from France, and 2,739 from Italy.
The growth in arrivals reflects Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to revive and strengthen its tourism sector following recent challenges, positioning the country as an increasingly popular destination across diverse international markets.
