NEW YORK, United States — Demonstrators gathered outside the headquarters of The New York Times this week, accusing major US media outlets of downplaying or justifying Israel’s actions in Gaza.
The protest, organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement, followed the killing of Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif and other reporters in recent days. Speaking at the rally, movement member Nas Issa said the demonstration targeted what she called “the role that legacy media institutions like the Times have played in running cover for Israel’s genocide.”
“We know these media institutions have the ear of the powerful. They can help build the political will to end the genocide and the starvation campaign, but so far they’ve refused to do so,” Issa told the crowd.
She alleged that news organizations bore responsibility for the deaths of al-Sharif and more than 200 other journalists killed in Gaza since the conflict began.
